As you say, this cost is after you&#039;ve bought the car. According to the NRMA, the biggest cost of all, when owning a car, is the depreciation. The $6000 cost above works out at $115. They put the weekly cost as $130 for a Hyundai Getz, and $275 on average.
If you&#039;ve got a family, you pretty much need to own a car. If you&#039;re single, you might be able to hire a car for weekends away, use a car share, public transport, or best still, ride a bike. They are building more and more bike paths in Sydney, so you won&#039;t have to risk all in the traffic.
If I see you on a bike, I will buy you a coffee, Denis.
